At Distington Community School, we aim to capture the children's enthusiasm for learning of languages and inspire them to develop their confidence when listening to, speaking, reading and/or writing a using a new language. To support the teaching of French, ensuring consistency and progression, we use materials provided through the Language Angels program. This program progresses in tandem with the level of experience that the children already have and builds upon children's previous learning, progression of both knowledge and skills is evident year on year.
In EYFS and Key Stage 1 children may begin to be introduced to MLF with a focus on French through whole school theme days and by dropping key vocabulary into classroom practice discretely.
Formal teaching of MFL is introduced in KS2.
In Key Stage 2 children will begin learning the language more directly, building on their speaking and listening skills, before moving on to reading and writing in French.
