Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

We are a class of 15 children and our teacher is Miss Bell. Our senior teaching assistant is Mrs Lister. Mrs Lister teaches the class on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons whilst Miss Bell has PPA time.

If you require any further information or have any queries, please contact Miss Bell via Class Dojo or the school office.

Key Information:

  • Our PE days are every Monday and Friday. Children must wear their school PE kit and trainers for school on these days. Please ensure that children do not wear jewellery (including earrings) on days when they have PE.
  • Read five times a week to achieve your Strive for Five target. Children receive a raffle ticket each time they read at home which they sign and enter into our weekly reading raffle! There are lots of exciting prizes to be won.
  • Homework is given out on a Friday and collected on Thursday. We will go through the answers together on Friday mornings to solidify knowledge and understanding. Homework will consist of maths, reading or SPaG activities and spellings taken from either the Year 6 statutory spellings or the spelling rule they have focused on that week.
  • Snack is available at break time each day and costs 20p per day or £1 per week. There are a variety of options for the children to choose from each day. Snack money will be collected in class on Monday each week.

Our Curriculum

The Year 6 curriculum has been developed to be creative, engaging and purposeful for the children meeting the needs of our class. It allows us to develop and grow through memorable and fun activities.  A wide range of experiences, which involve visitors and educational visits, will be used to further bring the curriculum to life for everyone.

This year we will follow a year 5 cycle in foundation subjects.

Our curriculum map can be found below – this outlines our plan for the year. We will share our experiences and keep you updated on your child's learning throughout the year via Class DOJO and parents meetings.

NB: Curriculum maps are subject to change.

Class Newsletters

Our class newsletters are attached below, which includes all the key information and important dates for the upcoming term. Please take a moment to read through it together at home.

Year 6 Mini Police

What a fantastic start for the Year 6 Distington Mini police!

The children are ready to be introduced to a positive experience of policing and become involved in their local community. We have an exciting year ahead!

In autumn, our task was to talk to the younger children about staying safe on Bonfire Night and producing posters and a presentation to be displayed around the school.

In spring, we explored speed cameras, breathalysers, learnt about drones, and even got to sit inside the police van.

Class Councillors

Megan and Jensen have been voted as our Class Councillors! They were each voted by their peers to represent our class. They will be responsible for creating fundraising events, voicing the opinions of their class and looking at ways they can generally improve our school as a whole, alongside the other class councillors and Mrs Kellett.
